Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori designs

 Kia ora koutou,

Nga mihi nui ki a koutou.

Welcome to our blog post all about Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori!  We were learning about how organisations using certain colours to communicate who they are.

For example, Awapuni School colours are yellow and black.  Our sign has these colours and so does our uniform.

Other brands that always use the same colours include:

KFC - white and red

McDonalds - yellow and red

Warehouse - red and white

Briscoes - blue and yellow

Bunnings - green and red and white

Mitre 10 - orange and black and white

Smiggle - yellow and pink

As part of Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori we looked at the colours that the brand use to communicate their message.  We looked at the arero (tongue) on the hei tiki on their logo that you can see on the first slide below, and used these colours to create our designs.  We had a number of phrases to use such as:

Ka  tākaro  ahau (I will play)

Ka waiata ahau (I will sing)

Ka pānui ahau ( I will read)

Ka   whakarongo  ahau (I will listen)

Ka  kōrero ahau (I will speak)

Many of us liked the idea of creating an image representing a kupu (word) that teaches people about something we like to play.  So we used the phrase

Ka tākaro ahau / I will play and added our thing we like to play into the centre of our badge.

Some of the things that were challenging about creating our badges were to think what we would create, getting the shapes correct, finding the right kupu.

Some of the things that was quite easy were creating the word art - especially the English word.

And some things we think we could improve on next time are checking our kupu carefully and choosing more interesting fonts than just the one that comes up to start with.

Kia ora world, from Room 6

 Kia ora koutou!

We are Room 6, a class of 25 learners at Awapuni School.  Our teacher is Miss Kapene.  Awapuni School is in Gisborne, New Zealand.  Check out this video to see where we are!

Some of the things Room 6 like doing are

Here is a photo of us all. We are excited to meet you and share our learning with you.  At the moment we're creating our Chromepets, a digital learning object to show you what we know about how to care for our Chromebooks.

What are some things you think we need to do to look after our devices so we can use them for learning?

Room 6 Class Portraits

In Room 6, we have been busy creating a classroom learning space that's filled with our lovely artwork!

One of the things we have created is our classroom portraits.  Don't they make our classroom look really bright!
